Spring and Easter in Ticino: Events, Blossoms & Traditions

Spring is one of the most fascinating times to discover Ticino, in the heart of Switzerland. With its palm trees along the lakeshore, picturesque villages, and alpine valleys coming back to life after winter, this region offers a unique blend of Mediterranean atmosphere and mountain landscapes.

During Easter, the area comes alive with cultural events, religious traditions, outdoor activities, and culinary highlights.

Here are the experiences you shouldn’t miss:

Camelia Exhibition Locarno – A Blooming Spectacle on Lake Maggiore (March 18–22, 2026)

From March 18 to 22, 2026, the 27th edition of the renowned camellia exhibition will take place in the Parco delle Camelie. More than 200 varieties will be in full bloom, transforming the park on the shores of Lake Maggiore into a colorful spring paradise.

The 10,000 m² garden holds the “Garden of Excellence” label from the International Camellia Society and is home to over a thousand plants.

The exhibition is complemented by floral installations, a plant market, a bar, and the traditional camellia concerts – a charming way to welcome spring in Ticino.

Easter in Ticino (April 3–6, 2026)

During the Easter weekend, many towns and villages come alive. There are small spring and Easter markets, craft activities for children such as egg painting, as well as numerous musical and culinary offerings. Especially in medium-sized towns and historic villages, you can fully enjoy the arrival of spring.

There are also traditional Easter processions in historic places such as Mendrisio or Bellinzona, keeping the region’s religious roots alive. Visitors can enjoy the solemn atmosphere while local choirs and torchlight processions line the streets.

Culinary Spring and Easter Traditions
Easter is also synonymous with culinary tradition. In the region’s typical grotti, you can enjoy specialties such as:

- oven-roasted goat

- Ticino-style risotto

- homemade sausage specialties

- Colomba pasquale (Italian Easter cake)

- local wines, especially Merlot del Ticino

Many restaurants also offer special Easter menus featuring seasonal products and regional ingredients.
