Winter Magic in Ticino – What Not to Miss in Winter 2025/26
Every December, Ticino transforms into an atmospheric winter wonderland: lights, music, markets and numerous cultural highlights. Here you will find a compact overview of the most important events you shouldn’t miss in the coming weeks.
Winterland 2025/26 – Locarno
From 20 November 2025 to 6 January 2026, Locarno turns into an enchanting winter village. In the historic old town, especially around Piazza Grande, Piazza Magnolia and Largo Zorzi, many attractions await visitors of all ages:
- Ice rink and 18-hole ice mini golf
- A 250 m zipline over Piazza Grande
- Street-food stalls and pop-up restaurants (Fondue Chalet, Chinoise Igloo, Winterland Express)
- Fairytale show “Nel cuore del tempo” with projections
- Children’s attractions and free workshops
- Live concerts featuring local and international artists
Winterland is perfect for families, couples or groups, especially beautiful at night, when all of Locarno glows with festive lights.
Christmas Markets in the Ascona–Locarno Region
Between 23 November and 20 December 2025, enchanting Christmas markets take place throughout the Ascona and Locarno region.
Festively decorated stalls offer traditional handicrafts, gift ideas, mulled wine and local specialties. Particularly recommended are:
- Artigiani in Borgo: Ascona Christmas Market on 6 December 2025 in Ascona
- Locarno Christmas Market: on 8 December 2025 in Locarno’s old town
And many more village and town markets, from Gordola to Losone, Minusio, Tenero, Brissago, Maggia and more.
These markets are a wonderful opportunity for atmospheric strolls, gift shopping and mulled wine under the lights, ideal for cozy afternoons or evenings.
Corsa da Natal – Ascona
A highlight for sports enthusiasts and families: on 21 December 2025, the traditional Corsa da Natal takes place in Ascona, the oldest popular running event in the canton of Ticino.
- Start: 10:00 — End: approx. 13:30
- The course leads through the festively decorated streets of Ascona and along the village lakeside promenade, a very special run full of Christmas spirit.
- Open to everyone: children, families, recreational runners and experienced athletes, with different distances and categories.
